FRUSTRATING news for motorists and commuters this evening as it has been confirmed that a major route could be closed for up to seven days from 9.30am tomorrow (Tuesday).
South Staffs Water are carrying out emergency repair work in Glascote, following a leak on a water main.
In order to carry out the repair, the B5000 Glascote Road will be shut between Bamford Street and Abbey Road, from 9.30am on Tuesday 29 January 2019 for around seven days.
Local diversions will be in place for motorists and buses, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area, and if possible, and allow extra time for their journey.
Businesses on Glascote Road can be accessed as normal, but please take note of where the closure is, to ensure you access from the right end of Glascote Road.
The diversion will take traffic along Sheepcote Lane, Florendine Street, Tamworth Road and then Amington Road.
Please remember that Abbey Road is a circular route and as such, this does not by-pass the closure.
South Staffs Water say that they are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank the public for their patience during this time.
Fortunately, the three-way temporary lights have been removed from the junction of Thomas Street and Amington Road this afternoon so this will ease the problem slightly.
Motorists, however, are asked to drive sensibly and be respectful of residents and pedestrians if cutting through local side streets, remembering to keep speed within limits and appropriate for the conditions.
