Hard work pays off as thousands of spring bulbs flower in Belgrave
SPRING has come to Belgrave as thousands of bulbs planted by volunteers last autumn have burst into bloom.
In October and November last year, around 20 residents and volunteers from community groups joined in several planting sessions where they planted 3,500 bulbs along the banks on Field Farm Road.
The bulbs were specially chosen to attract bees and butterflies, and to flower at different times.
Now, the hard work has started to yield results, with hundreds of daffodils, tulips and hyacinths blooming along the banks.
Volunteer Laurie Winfield said: “The bulbs planted along Field Farm Road are now in flower and look great. Thanks to all of the members of Belgrave Residents Association who joined in planting over 3,500 bulbs by hand. Well done guys.”
Tamworth resident Hannah Gregory said: “They are delightful streams of colour and I always know I am nearly home when I see them. Thank you to everyone who planted the bulbs – I seriously do love them.”

I asked if they were willing to help plant them and when they agreed, I went about making it happen.
“It was quite hard work planting all the bulbs, but it was a good excuse for some extra exercise – and what a beautiful display we now have for all to enjoy, year after year.”
The residents meetings are held at 7pm at Tamworth Baptist Church in Derwent on the second Thursday of every month. Everyone is welcome to go along and hot drinks are provided.
