The artwork can be seen in the window at Bradly Scott Windows on Watling Street, who has previously displayed the Academy’s artwork celebrating the NHS and key workers.

PUPILS at Tamworth’s Three Peaks Primary Academy have celebrated the 100th Birthday of Honorary Colonel Tom Moore by designing Birthday Cards.

The art task was given out to pupils at the academy, both those who are in school due to having key-worker parents and also to those working from home.

Originals of the cards were, of course, forwarded on to Honorary Colonel Tom, but copies of the cards are on display in the window of Bradley Scott Windows on Watling Street.

Not only did the children design the front of the cards, but they also penned personal messages inside the cards for Colonel Tom.

Of all the work that has been set for the students to complete during the lockdown period, the staff at the school say that this had one of the highest return rates, showing how Colonel Tom has really touched the heart of the nation.

Earlier in the ‘Lockdown’, pupils from Three Peaks Primary Academy designed a window display for Bradley Scott Windows which celebrated the amazing work of Key Workers locally.

Richard Penn-Bourton, Head Teacher at Three Peaks Academy has told Tamworth Informed, “We decided to complete the work on Captain Tom because the children were so interested in what he had done. As the story about his amazing fundraising efforts grew the children were keen to find out about who he was and excitedly followed how much money he was raising.

“As a school, we thought what a fantastic role model for our pupils. The children who were in school and those working at home were asked to design a birthday card for Cpt Tom and they really engaged with the learning. Of all the learning activities that we have set during the school closure period, this has had one of the highest completion rates.

“All of the staff have been blown away by the cards that the children designed and the messages that the children penned. The originals of the cards have been sent to Cpt Tom and we hope that he enjoys reading them. Once again, during these strange times, the children on Three Peaks have taken the time and effort to show their respect for others.

“This work follows on from the work the children did to design a window display recognising the valuable role key worker are playing in keeping the country functioning and letters which have been sent to five care homes across Tamworth and the wider area.”
