Further arrests as promoters claim Belfry event was ‘Hugely Successful’

POLICE investigating a disturbance at The Bel Air nightclub at The Belfry, in the early hours of yesterday have arrested two more people. The promoters have insisted the event was ‘hugely successful’.

The men, both 27 and from the Birmingham area, have been arrested this morning (Friday 2nd January) on suspicion of violent disorder.

Three men arrested yesterday (Thursday 1st January) have been released on police bail while the investigation continues.

Three men remain in hospital today. It is understood that one will be released this morning. The condition of the other two is described as stable but serious.

Anyone who was inside, or in the vicinity of, the nightclub during the time of these incidents who has information to assist the inquiry should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 24 of January 1st, 2015.

Huge Success

Meanwhile, the promoter of the event, ‘Nude’ said its party at was “hugely successful, disputing the Warwickshire Police statement which confirmed six people were stabbed whilst partying at the event.

In a statement to the Birmingham Mail promoters Nude they said: “Nude hosted a hugely successful event where over 1,500 people partied, socialised and saw in the New Year in style making a great effort in their appearance and contributing to a great event with no issues, trouble or incidents.

Later in the statement, the company admitted there had been ‘an incident’ involving a ‘mere fraction’ of the revellers; saying “Differing versions of events and numbers have been banded about all day today.

“While we know there was one altercation resulting in one man being stabbed, there is no evidence to suggest some of the other numbers being banded about are actually factual.

“We’re confident no-one who attended the event bared witness to any of these other alleged incidents actually taking place.

“We’d like to re-assure all of our regular Nude attendees who have been supporting our events since we started three years ago that we will be moving mountains and doing everything in our power and more to ensure no such incidents or persons are ever present at any of our future events again.”
