TAMWORTH Castle has very good reason to be celebrating once more, after winning silver awards for being a top tourist destination and a great place to meet Santa, in the 2017 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards.
Staff at the castle are delighted to be named the silver winners in both the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year and Best Tourism Experience for Santa Event categories of this year’s competition.
The honours were revealed at a prestigious awards ceremony, hosted by BBC Midlands Today presenter Joanne Malin, at Uttoxeter Race Course on Wednesday November 15.
Tamworth Castle was just beaten by Gladstone Pottery Museum in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category and Drayton Manor in the Best Tourism Experience for Santa Event.
The popular Victorian Santa Trails are back at the castle for this December. Already the weekend dates are fully booked, but there are still afternoon spaces available on Monday December 18 and Tuesday December 19. Pre-booking is essential.
The awards were organised by Enjoy Staffordshire and independently judged and verified by Service Science. Entrants were marked on their commitment to delivering excellent customer service, training and skills for employees, sustainability and environment, proactivity, dedication to best practice, quality of service and product.
Shortlists of entrants are selected from all written applications, who may then receive a judging visit.
Judges commented that there were some very strong entrants in this year’s competition. Tamworth Castle showed it is a strong, well-organised and customer-focused attraction, while the well- written and supported application enabled it to edge in front of the other contenders.
Cllr Joy Goodall, Cabinet member for Environment & Culture, said: “Tamworth Castle is an absolute gem, and these awards are a well-deserved recognition of its value and importance. I am delighted that Tamworth Castle has taken the silver award in two categories, which demonstrates how special the sell-out Victorian Santa Trails event is and what a huge amount of hard work and dedication the whole team puts into making the Castle an amazing attraction to visit. The passion and commitment that the team delivers creates an exciting and high quality visitor experience.”
She added: “Tamworth Castle continues to boost the profile of Tamworth even further and hopefully attract even more people to come and visit us.”
