APPEAL: Please help find the family of Private Hewett

Tuesday, 28th July 2015

CAN you help track down the Family of Phillip Hewett in time for a memorial service this weekend at the National Memorial Arboretum?

The Staffordshire Regiment Museum have contacted Tamworth Informed this week in the hope that our readers can help track down his family to let them know about the memorial service which is coming up this weekend.
Danielle Pritchard the Museum Curator told us: “The other two families are keen to re-connect with them. We would be grateful if anyone has any contact with Phillip Hewett’s family to let them know.
“We believe his mother Sue Smith and step father, have moved to Yorkshire. We are very keen to inform them. I believe that some of his sisters still live in Tamworth. Any help would be deeply appreciated.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Major Jim Massey on 01543 434392 or by emailing jim.massey767@mod.uk

The Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving for the Lives of 2/Lt Richard Shearer from Nuneaton and Private Leon Spicer and Private Phillip Hewett, both from Tamworth will be held on Saturday 1st August 2015.

I am sure many will remember the tragedy of 16th July 2005 when three of our brave Stafford’s were killed by a road side bomb in Al Amarah and two more, seriously wounded. With this year being the tenth anniversary the families are keen to hold a memorial service for them.

The service will take place at The Staffordshire Regimental Association plot at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas.

There will be a few benches and chairs out for the elderly or disabled, but the majority of the congregation will be standing.

The Staffordshire Regiment Association will gather at 1030 hrs for an 1100 hrs service, which will be taken by The Revd. Keith Barry, who was Padre of 1 STAFFORDS at the time.

Members of The Staffordshire Regiment Association and Mercian Regiment Volunteers Association plus serving and former members of The Mercian Regiment; are all invited to attend. Branch Standards are requested. The families have invited their own guests.

Afterwards there will be a reception in the Royal British Legion Club in Alrewas. We would be grateful if Branches and individuals could inform me if they intend going to this. We have been allocated fifty places, but for planning purposes, the families would like to have an idea of approximate numbers.

Anyone who wishes to attend are also asked to contact Major Jim Massey on 01543 434392 or by emailing jim.massey767@mod.uk
