Appeal following fatal collision on A38 in Burton

Wednesday, 22nd January 2020

Officers in Staffordshire are appealing for witnesses following the death of a man who fell from a bridge in Burton-on-Trent yesterday morning (21 January).

A report of a man in distress on a bridge over the southbound carriageway of the A38, near the Clay Mills junction, was received by police at around 6.45 am on Tuesday.

It is believed that before the arrival of officers, the man fell from the bridge and collided with a BMW car.

Sadly, the 28-year-old man was confirmed deceased at the scene. Specially-trained officers are currently supporting his family at this difficult time.

Police Constable Jonathan Stant, from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The road was closed for a number of hours following this incident to allow us to gather evidence and I would like to thank motorists for their patience.

“We are currently investigating this collision and would ask anyone with information to come forward.

“Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are asked to get in touch by either calling 101 quoting incident number 78 of 21 January or by emailing the investigation team direct on ciu@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk.”

At Tamworth Informed, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman involved in this incident and with the driver of the vehicle and the emergency services who attended the scene.
