THE countdown is on for residents across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to vote for the Fire Service Champion of 2017.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s award nominations close in five days, this Sunday (September 10). Shortlisting is due to take place next week ahead of the revamped awards on Thursday October 12 when those who have made an outstanding contribution in their role will be recognised and rewarded.
The Awards, which are being held for the tenth year, will feature up to 14 categories, including the publicly nominated Fire and Rescue Champion of The Year award.
This is given to the individual or team that has demonstrated outstanding community spirit and gone beyond the call of duty to help people overcome difficult situations.
Director of Prevent and Protect Glynn Luznyj said: “This public focused award depends on the community highlighting outstanding members of the Service who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. The public are at the very heart of the Service and central to all we do so this award gives you the chance to let us know who is making a real difference.
“You have until Sunday to nominate either an individual or a team, basically anyone you have encountered that has made a valuable and positive contribution to your life.
“Across the Service our staff are committed to helping in times of crisis or strife. Your nomination could be someone in Fire Control who kept you calm and reassured over the telephone while an incident took place, a member of our support staff that has gone the extra mile to build valuable community relationships, or a firefighter that has shown incredible bravery at an incident.”
Members of the public can complete their nomination forms on the Service’s website www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk until 11.59pm on Sunday September 10. Those who nominate will be invited to attend the award ceremony in October if their nomination is short listed.
The remaining categories have been publicised internally, with staff asked to nominate colleagues and partners that they feel have gone the extra mile.
Details of the individuals/teams shortlisted for an award will be released in due course.
