Two arrested after armed officers called to A38 incident

POLICE have arrested a man and a youth following reports of an air rifle being seen in incidents on the A38 in Staffordshire.

Firearms officers attended the A38 close to Muckley Corner at around 5.20pm yesterday evening (August 12) after reports of an air rifle or similar weapon being seen.

Police also received a similar report of youths in a silver MG ZR on the A38 near to the Catholme turn-off at around 6pm Friday evening (August 11).

An 18-year-old man from Chasetown and a 17-year-old male youth from Derby have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Inspector Jonathan Staite, of Staffordshire Police, said: “We’d like to reassure the public who may have seen firearms officers and other police officers on the A38 today that two arrests have been made in connection with these reported incidents.”

“We’d like to thank the public for coming forward immediately to report these incidents and providing us with information.”
